L.E.D. Taillight conversion
1985 CJ7
We purchased 4" round L.E.D. park/turn/stop taillights from our local Hovis auto supply. These are manufactured by GROTE.
Installation was simple. We went to the Home Depot and bought a 4 1/2" hole saw blade.
Once the hole was cut, the new tail-light assemblies just pop in (with grommet)
We did not have to add any additional relay since the Jeep is a CJ... if you have a TJ wrangler, you will need to modify the existing flasher relay.
I had measured light output of the old tail-light
assemblies (with a digital light meter), and compared them with the new
assemblies.
The results were that the new L.E.D's were twice as bright for the parking
light.. and almost 3X as bright for the brake light.

1997 TJ wrangler
We purchased 2" oval L.E.D. park/turn/stop taillights from our local Hovis auto supply. These are also manufactured by GROTE.
Installation was simple. We went to the Home Depot and bought a 2 1/2" hole saw blade. We drilled 2 holes for each lamp and connected them together with a sawzall.
Once the hole was cut, the new tail-light assemblies just pop in (with grommet)
If you have a TJ wrangler, you will need to modify the existing flasher relay.
Once again, the lamps were over 2X brighter in park and 3X brighter with the brake light
Here is a picture of the modification we made to the flasher:
